While hosts are the primary contact for guests needs in Welcome Housing, host assistants are introduced primarily for the sake of providing extra welcoming and another local connection. Resettlement is not just about providing resources but about rebuilding relationships. Host assistants partner with a host and a single family for the duration of their stay in Welcome Housing (about 3 weeks).
During that time people typically connect through:
- having tea together
- exploring the city
- sharing a meal
- playing games or sports
If this is something you are interested in, please fill out an application to get involved here and Erika will be in contact with you shortly.
LEAP requires that Host Assistants attend a training put on by our friends at Glocal Community Partners. This 3-hour class gives an overview of refugee resettlement, God's heart for the foreigner and sojourner, and insight into cross-cultural relationships. The next Glocal training is:
- TBD for March 2018
- Please RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org and Erika Ostyn email@example.com
Additionally, all Host Assistants are required to complete an easy online background screening through Verified Volunteers.
