LEAP has had a busy start to 2018!
Welcome Housing Expansion
LEAP has been fundraising since the summer of 2017 to purchase 3 condos on the Boise bench to expand the Welcome Housing service. Those units are now 43% fundraised as LEAP continues to lease to own them. We have until March 2019 to finish fundraising the remaining $188,021. With support from you and the community, we are confident in reaching this goal. These units will serve 144 guests every year, meeting the need for all incoming refugees who need transitional housing, and will ensure the sustainability of the program through unit ownership. Consider donating today!
LEAP is opening the first condo into a Welcome House in April. Stay tuned for many upcoming volunteer opportunities to get these units cleaned up and furnished for their first guests.
'Yes You Can' Homebuyer Program
Launched in October 2017, LEAP's newest program connects clients who have low-income, poor/unestabilished credit, or a lack of know-how to community providers of housing counseling, housing education, and financial assistance programs to ensure the home buying process is an empowering and affordable experience. This free service currently has 18 families on their way to their dream home. Learn more about 'Yes You Can'.
Windy Court - Affordable Rental Units
LEAP recently received funding from the Idaho Housing and Finance Association (IHFA) to develop 4 affordable rental units in NW Boise on donated land. Using units from local builder IndieDwell, who uses recycled shipping containers to make modern, affordable units, these 4 bed, 2 bath units are ADA accessible and will serve families who are 0-30% of area median income. Located near a bus line and many community amenities, the Windy Court project is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2018.
LEAP and IndieDwell were recently featured in an Idaho Statesman article about this project. We hope these units will help to reduce the 8,095 deficit of affordable rental homes in Boise.
LEAP is growing and expanding our services to meet the many housing needs in Boise. We look forward to what this next season brings!
