As we move towards the upcoming holiday season the LEAP team is reminded that we have so much to be thankful for. It was just a year ago that we were dreaming about Welcome Housing and wondering if it would actually become a reality. What an amazing thing it is to see these dreams and ideas come to fruition!
We celebrate the successful fundraising of $74,000 in order to secure the option to purchase 3 condos for future use as Welcome Housing. We still have a long ways to go in order to raise the remainder ($240,000) by March 2019 but are so encouraged by the support received thus far. We look forward to gradually opening these condos for Welcome Housing as resettlement stabilizes in the coming months.
We celebrate the opening of the newest Welcome House on Cassia along with the newest hosts Tim and Eliza Agenbroad. A huge construction effort by the hosts and a Home Depot grant helped to finish this huge project. Their first guests arrived on Friday the 20th, and the hosts and house have been awesome 🙂
We continue to celebrate the Tuttles and the Welcome House they host on Boise Ave. Since February of last year they have hosted 9 parties there (25 people). They continue to extend love and generosity through their hospitality!
We celebrate continued resettlement (although it is slower than we wish). In an environment of uncertainty around refugee resettlement we experience joy each time we receive word from resettlement agencies that a new family is arriving.
We celebrate Dhafer and his amazing dedication as the host of the first Welcome House we opened on Leadville Ave. Since December of last year he has served 50 people in the Leadville Welcome House (10 parties) coming through refugee resettlement. He truly made Welcome Housing possible in his willingness to start this new service, and brings such a warm presence as a host. Thank you Dhafer!
We celebrate the Leadville property as the lease ends. Thanks to the volunteers from The North End Collective Church and so many other people for helping get this first house open. Although we are sad to move away from this property, we will shift the resources from this unit to the new properties in response to this season of slow resettlement.
We have much to be thankful for and much more work ahead of us. The LEAP team has been continuing to work hard to learn more about affordable housing in Boise and develop creative solutions. Stay tuned for more on the new homebuyers program that is currently still in a pilot stage.
We would like to say thank you to all of the incredible individuals and organizations who have supported us to this point. Without you we would not have been able to secure the condos thus far!
Thank you to these organizations and countless other individuals!
